Sample answers for the citizenship interview
Examples can help you start, but they must not replace your own story. A good answer is clear, personal and consistent with your application. Use these examples as a structure to adapt.

How to use examples without reciting them
Read the example, then replace general details with your own facts: arrival year, work, family, studies, town, community involvement or difficulties you have overcome. Remove any sentence that does not fit your life.
The interviewer may ask for details. Follow-up questions are harder if you only memorised a text. If you understand the structure, you can answer naturally.
- Start with a short answer.
- Add a concrete example.
- Avoid unrealistic promises.
- Do not use a word you cannot explain.
- Check that your answer matches your application.

Common questions
Can I use these examples exactly as written?
No. Adapt them to yourself. A copied answer may sound unnatural and may not match your application.
How many examples should I prepare?
Prepare at least one example for motivation, background, work or studies, values, rights and duties, institutions and life in France.
Should I speak for a long time?
No. Start with a short, clear answer. The interviewer will ask you to explain more if needed.
How can I tell if my answer is too general?
If any candidate could say it, add a detail from your life: a date, place, job, family fact, procedure, difficulty or plan.
